Nothing comes up on the monitor except display port not connected or something like that.

I checked the monitor by plugging it into my old laptop

Didn't you work for Google, bro? I'm sure they have excellent IT that can help you out.

If your motherboard has lights or beeps for the video card not being connected that would be one way. My Z97 has a light for CPU,RAM and GPU. Beeps were used in the dark ages of Computers assuming you have a mini speaker in your case.

Glad you figured it out! I'm guessing the cable was loose and when you plugged it back in it worked?

To answer your question though:
  • Odd graphical glitches
  • Motherboard beeps
  • BIOS won't even post
Reseating the graphics card or trying another PCIe slot is always a good idea.
