How can I tell if my iphone 3g is unlockable?

My friend is going to sell me her 3g while she upgrades to the new 4G. What is the current state of the jailbreak and unlock on the iphone 3g? She says she has it updated to the latest firmware. Thanks!

Depends on your modem firmware. You can jailbreak it even at 3.1.3 but modem firmware only works up to 5.11.07 i believe. The 5.12 unlock is supposed to come out when the iPhone 4 comes out.

if you bought the iphone in the last 6 months, wait a few more weeks for an unlock for it. you can jailbreak it right now, however.
