I would say go into your BIOS and try to change some particular CPU settings. If you can't, she's locked

If your 2600+ is a Barton core, then most likely yes it has its multipliers locked. If its a Tbreb core, then no it most likely you will be able to change the multiplier on it. Good Luck

You can check it will cpuid or cpu-z. The Barton core has 512kb of L2 cache, and the Tbred has 256kb of L2 cache. You can also tell by the clock speed, the Barton 2600+ is at 1916mhz (11.5x166), and the tbred 2600+ 333fsb is at 2083mhz (12.5x166).

2600+ tbred's are not known as very good overclockers. a 2338 overclock is pretty good. My 2600+ which runs stock at 2133 (133x16) can only go up to 2145 (165x13) or 2100 (200x10.5) but my ram is unstable at 200. No matter which combination of FSB/Multiplier I use it will not go over 2145, and it runs cool so heat is not the problem. So I would be very happy with 2338.
