How can I tell if IBM DTLA 307030 has DMA turned on or off?

Sandra measures 13600 points and I think the score should be way over 20000.
Additionally, copying a 170 meg file on the same partition takes about two minutes.

I'd like to check whether DMA is turned on. There's no check box for DMA in hard disk properties in device manager. However, both CDs have the check box for DMA and apparently it is turned on.

What should I do?

You have a Via 686A south bridge on that ABit KT7 motherboard, with the Via 4-in-1 driver pack it installs a program called DMAtool.exe, run that it will give you 4 check boxes for your 4 IDE devices, it will tell you what's got DMA on and what doesn't, and it will let you enable it if it's not.

If the hard drive is on the HPT370 controller then I don't know how to do it...

Hard drive is on the HPT370 controller and it is configured to UDMA 5 mode.
Other possibilities are PIO 0-4, MW DMA 0-1 and UDMA 0-4.

OK, I've found out UDMA 5 is equivalent to ATA100.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to speed up my disk?

Hmmm, do you have anything odd running in the background? Is an IRQ sharing w/ your hard drive controller? Something to that effect?

Defrag helps too.

IRQ11 is being shared by:

- ACPI IRQ holder for PCI IRQ steering
- HPT370 RAID controller and
- SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus

I don't understand this mumbo-jumbo :) so do you think this is set up properly or not?
