I have a Verizon DSL, Linksys wireless router and netgear PCI wireless adapter. OSwin 98
Before i setup my wireless connection I used to be able to see my connection speed by clicking on the right hand corner on two blinking monitors.
Now, i can't tell at what speed i am connected since those two monitors are not there anymore and sometimes i can't even tell even if i am connected since i just wait for the web pages to load. I do see the link between my netgear card and router. Can someone please tell me how can i find out the connection speed or if i am connected to internet?
Thanks. :(

have u tried reinstalling ur verizon software? it sounds as tho the application for the "two monitors" icon in ur system tray has been disabled. since i do not know the name of the applications (otherwise, i would tell u to check msconfig), the next best thing would be to reinstall the verizon software.

I assume you're talking about the 2 blinking lights when you're connected via modem.

Unfortunately, there's no built-in way in Windows to show LAN activity in the system tray. You can get 3rd party utilities like NetStat Live.

Unlike dial-up where your modem and ISP have to negotiate a baud rate, the "connection speed" for DSL is always the speed of the network adapter in the DSL modem (i.e. 10Mbps or 100Mbps). There is also no passive way to determine whether or not your connection is active - you have to do something like continually ping a server.

PrincessGuard, There was two connected monitor icon on the task bar. Ever since i have installed my Netgear's wireless network card i cannot see those two monitor icon in the task bar and i do see an icon for adapter's status which probably overrode the utility that came with verizon's DSL software. I guess since my connection is now controlled by a wireless router i only see the status of link between my network card and router.
Thanks to all of you for your help.

Yeah use NetStat Live. Your wireless network installation has preempted your icon monitor.
