Hi,

I have just set up my AMD T-bird 900mhz and ASUS A7V Mobo. I put the original heatsink and fan from AMD. But I realized that it is not doing a good job. CPU heat was around 58 Celcius.

I have purchased 2CoolPC or something like that chasis fan. It brought the temp down to 52C. But I already purchase that thermaltakes chrome orb CPU fan too.

But I cannot get rid off AMD's heatsink and fan. It is stuck there and I have to apply too much force that I know I will break the socket or damage the CPU. Is there any trick to take it out safely or any info about the procedure. It is a scary thought to break something worth $700 for a $15 fan.

Thanks

well if your that nervous about taking it off, just cut the clip. personally i wouldn't do this, but you don't have to worry about breaking the cpu by doing this. first try to work the clip to the side and see if that helps.

Just run the computer for sometime. It will warm up the thermal material. switch it off and immediately(after taking precaution!) remove the fan..

Great idea to do it while it's hot zzzzz. Hey finger, I don't know how to cut the clip because it is out of reach.

What are the changes of breaking the plastic notches around the CPU where the fan clips attached?

Well maybe I am making it a big deal. I am just gonna push it down with a screw driver pry it to the side and get it outta there. It is sure harder then fixing a bike.
