Hey guys. Is there a way to start a torrent download remotely from my smartphone when I'm not home? Or even wake my computer from sleep and put it back to sleep afterwards? Thanks!

i do that on utorrent and Transdroid http://www.transdroid.org/screenshots/ on the android phone.

You need some things to do:

1.- Activate the Web access on utorrent.

2.- Open the port (configured in utorrent for the web access) in your home router.

3.- Create one free account on dyndns, no-ip or similar services for have a name instead our your home ip. this optional but very usefull.

4.- you need one app in your phone who can use the uTorrent remote access. I am using Transdroid on android phone.
Transdroid suports agood amount of clients: uTorrent, Transmission, rTorrent, Vuze, Deluge and BitTorrent 6

Its very cool to use that in public :) you can start downloads, pause, stop, delete, see uploads or downloads, list torrents by label etc.

I got a simpler method...Install dropbox. Get utorrent to moniter a specific folder on your pc. Install dropbox on your smartphone and upload the torrent file you want to dl on your dropbox. Utorrent will pick it up if your home pc is on. I do this + use this to start dls from work

There is an even simpler way to do it. Install uTorrent remote from Android. I do not have an iOS device so I can't help you there.

Look into Transmission. It's a web based torrent client. You can just copy and paste a torrent url into it and it starts to download. Does magnet links too, which TPB uses now.
