How can i setup a printer to my laptop and print to it wirelessly

I want to just setup a printer in my room and have it on so i can print to it from my laptop anywhere. How can i do this.

then you can just share the printer over your wifi network. of course, your desktop must be on to print from you to print from your laptop.

Oh and no, you don't need this. You just need to setup a file/printer sharing network.

HP has printers and AIO's that do. It's not on every model, though. IIRC, they start around $200.

That's certainly a viable option, except that may not meet the "without being connected to the printer by an actual cord" parameter.

the OP didn't specify if "without being connected to the printer" was just the laptop, which i assumed.

wireless print server.. there are usb and parallel ones available. They sell them online and at places like Frys for cheap.

My wireless router has a built in print server. If yours does as well, problem solved. If not, then go with a wireless print server that is seperate from your router, same solution just two different products.

how would it not meet the criteria? the cord would only go from the printer to the desktop NOT to the laptop, hence, the laptop would print wirelessly.

Many obvious scenarios:

• No desktop
• Desktop(s) in alternate location
• Wanting to install the printer as a stand alone device
• Etc.

In short, without additional information, it is impossible to know (which would be why the phrase "may not meet" was used).

there are two options here, to simply say, it can't be done without more equipment OR

suggest how it can be done WITH additional equipment.

Sorry i steped away from the comp for a few, ehhh i have a laptop with wifi in it, im connected to a wireless network, and i have to get a printer soon so i was just wondering how i could go about to float around the house and just press print, having a printer in my room hooked up where i could print to. it looks as though the wireless print server is best bet?
