I have 2 physical drives. Drive C: is ntfs 3 gigs and has xp loaded on it. and D: is a 10gig drive formated to ntfs

Is there any way to expand drive C: so I only see a 13 gig C: drive that includes both physical drives.

Thanks.

You've presented the "stumper" question of the day with your request. What you are essentially asking is done all the time with network servers - combining more than one disk to make a "volume." Doing this on a stand-alone OS, such as XP workstation could be a potentially impossible task. With that being said, I wouldn't waste too much time on the thought or the process of making this work. Why, you ask? Because in the Hot Deals forum, there is a 30 GB Maxtor listed for sale at Office Depot for about $30.00. Trying to get the 2 drives (and 13 GB) to play nicely together would eat up more than the effort and time than it would be to just put in a new, faster, larger hard drive. Then, you could sell the 2 old hard drives for $10 each to recover part of the costs.

Granted, my response may not be the one you were looking for, but I believe it might be the most effective - given the current situation.

Actually you could do this if none of the drives were a system drive. Win2000 Server, and XP Server both have built in software RAID. However this cannot be done to a system drive. (C:\).

My advice to you is just get a new HD from the Hot deals forum

Thanks wje, that is a great answer. Its a free system for a friend, who has no money so I thought if it were easy to do I would do it.

So I think I will be a nice guy and buy my friend a 30gig drive and not tell him and just put it in the system.

Thanks all for your answers.:D

Being charitable will give you a good feeling. Your friend must be very fortunate to have you as a friend. :)

Wait, what about partition magic? Doesnt it have a feature to combine 2 volumes (as long as they are on the same physical drive and physically located next to each other)?

It's been a while since I've use it but I thought I remembered a feature that did that.

like i said

it just seems that alot of people (me included) would love to have this option if it were easy or practical for a home system. it didn't sound like you were looking for a raid setup either.
so by the way , LostHiWay , if you do this :

can you get all 13gigs usable ?
