How can I record from a mic and a CD or MP3 at the same time?

How can I record from a mic and a CD or MP3 at the same time? Is it just a software thing, or might my onboard sound solution just not be capable of doing that? If it's hardware, what feature should I look for in a sound card that would tell me it does that?

It basically is a software thing and the Mic records in Monaural. You can play the tunes through the Speaker and sing along and that will work or get a Karaoke proggy
