I don't know of a way to do it automatically - but manually it is easy. Just use a tape recorder. For 5 hours, you would need a big reel-to-reel unit with extended play tape. These things are no longer marketed, so you would have to check out used equipment or even a recording studio.

I believe there is also a way to record audio on a VCR - and that could be set for an auto on at a designated time.

You pose an interesting question. You can also record streaming audio from an FM radio connected to a sound card's LINE-IN port. But auto-on and off - ??? The file size in converting analog audio to digital format would be huge.

I can only be a little help Total Recorderwill do the recording and convert it to mp3 (compressed) or standard wave files.
This is a good proggy.

A radio connected to you your sound card via double male 1/4 mini or 1/8 headphone jack.. (available at radioshack) should do the trick

no I am not sure on the rest.. if it was a game I was launching and I wanted it to run in specific paramaters. It is as easy as setting the paramaters in the ini or conf. file for the proggy.. to handle the auto paramaters required,

I know cron jobs in linux are pretty easy. perhaps someone else can come up with other data.

You will need approx 3Gb of storage to record audio if you want to do that - if you are running Windows 98 SE or Windows 2000 in FAT32, you will be quite near the maximum file size limit of FAT32. Of course you can compress into MP3 format and shrink it down, but only after you've recorded the audio in uncompressed WAV format in the first place.
