Well, this is kind of an odd question I guess... I do a LOT of work on my laptop in the living room, and my main PC is in the next room over but I have a kickin' sound system set up with my PC. Anyway, what I was wondering is if there is any type of software or something that I can do to be able to make that computer play some mp3s or something without leaving my spot in the living room with what I already have?

Both machines are running Windows XP, and on the same network so files are shared, too... Is there some sort of software that will allow me to execute that file on that system from my system?

didn't really know where to ask this as it could have fallen in 3 or 4 different categories for AT..

anyone advise?

yes if files are shared and you can access them, you can. i do that all the time in my home network

edit: no special program needed. just double click the file and whatever you use to play the music will play the file.

heh.. lol I know all about file sharing... what I'm looking for is a way to play the file on the other computer's speakers, but using my laptop or another computer to essentially initiate the playing of the file on the other computer's sound system

remote desktop is a good idea and one that I have thought of too, but I dunno I don't really like it, anything else out there that could do this ?

hmm still not sure this is what I'm wanting... shoutcast server, doesn't this allow other people to listen to what is being played from the server computer? thus I would just be listening to what's being run on the "serveR" through my laptop speakers?

ok I used Remote desktop... had to change some settings and let people connect to my computer, plus the browse feature doesn't work so I had to type in the Network ID of the other computer to be able to connect... other than that we're golden, I'm bumpin to tha tunes :D
