How can I play .AVI files with infranview?

If not what do I need to play it. From what i understand it's a movie but all I have is infranview and winamp and explorer. I disabled and uninstalled media player because it was pesky to me. Do I need this back? Thanks.

PS when i try and open it infranview says:

Video not available. cannot find 'vids: Div3' decommpressor.

You need to install codecs. Search for ffdshow filter and install it.
