How can i open a .docx file in word?

i have office 10 beta at home, and it seems to like to save files as .docx which

office XP doesnt open.

if i take off the x, it doesnt change jack.

how can i get this open, or what other program will open it?

Rename the docx file to a zip file

blahblah.docx to blahblah.zip

Look at the contents of the zip, and extract the doc file in it.

you maybe have to use a "save-as" and then select an earlier version (i.e. .doc).

trying to figure out which one the paper is in.
