How can I make WinXP Pro accept more RAM than at the setup...?

The problem is that I recently obtained additional RAM for my WinXP Pro box and when I added it to the current configuration (256 MB) another 256 MB for the total of 512 MB the WinXP reported an error message during the boot on a Blue Screen say something like:
"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL..." and geve the usualy bs about trying the "safe mode" and correcting the "system config". I tryied to run it in the safe mode, but it gave another BSOD, this time regarding the some security file that it was unable to load saying that it was either corrupted, missing or non-writable, so Win XP cannot load the main hive. When I removed the new RAM it booted like normal, without any errors.

System Config
AMD Thunderbird 1.3 GHz (266 MHz FSB)
Asus A7V-133A
WindowsXP (2600) with all of the fixes
SB Live

Both peaces of RAM are PC 133 and where set to run as ones through the BIOS.

Any suggestions or comments are appriciated.

Try booting your PC with the new RAM by itself. Maybe it is a bad stick, or maybe it just does not like the other stick.

The new stick of RAM is likely bad try booting with only it installed and see if it fails, if it does then return it.

Edit Great minds think alike eh? :p

If WinXP have a glitch, is their weirdeness with memory. I remember when one time i had 2x64MB PC100 memory sticks, combined with another 128MBPC 133 stick. Windows sometimes would NEVER boot and i had to format and reinstall everything. Now i have one 256MB PC-133 memory stick and all works ok.

My advice is, get a new memory stick and see if it works normally.
