How can I live-stream to Justin.TV or TwitchTV from my iPhone 5?

It should be possible! I did it before with my iPhone 4.

There's just no option to live-stream from the Justin.TV or TwitchTV apps. They only allow you to view streams.

I tried starting a Google+ hangout and set the access to "Public," but I was immediately joined by spambots with pics of young dudes in underwear. Also, people wouldn't be able to join the hangout unless they signed-in to a Google Plus account.

That's not what I'm looking for. I want to start a live stream and post the link to Twitter/Facebook/Google+ so people I know can start watching with one click.

Recommend something that doesn't suck?

Well, it looks like Ustream will do it.

Justin.TV / TwitchTV, you lost me. If you want people to use your service, don't make it damn-near impossible to use.

...and that's f---ing stupid. They've lost me because they made it way too difficult to live-stream video from the camera on my tablet and smartphone.

I guess they just don't want to beat their competitor, ustream.

Yeah seriously. I could live stream video to the web from my phone back when I had a Nexus One and Droid X. It really seems like we've gone backwards.
