How can I let win2k see a 180GB hard drive?

I put a 180 GB hard drive in my parnets PC as they were running out of room. I for got abou tthe drive limitation thing.

it's an IBM/hitachi 120GXP I downloaded their software from the web site and it had an option to enable the entire drive to be used but that did nothing.
Someone else said I could use partition magic to do it.??

I wanted to put this in an external USB case. would such a large drive be usable under another OS in an external case?

thanks!

IIRC, doesn't SP3 address this? (allows drives larger than 137GB)

The other thing to do would be what someone else said -- partition the drive into two (or more) partitions ... boy that's kinda redundant 😉 ... say a 100GB one and an 80GB one (give or take). Then since both are under the limitation, both would be fully recognized.

HTH 🙂

Um, it'd be a 180GXP considering it's 180GB, yes?

I read that your bios also has to be able to see all 180gb first. Reboot and check bios.

Next, yes install SP3 or SP4 (if that's out yet). See what happens.

sp4 is installed, I'll check w/ the mobo manufacturere to see if it's supprted

oops, ionizer you're right it's a 180 GXP
