how can i learn ftp/want to share files with a pc in germany

hello techies and such,
I'll get my dsl this week and want to share files mostly little programs (under 3 MB) and mp3 over the internet with friend in germany.
how can i do that?
I've heard that ftp is a choice but not sure, maybe there's something else?
i'll have a static and he's a dynamic IP.
I'm running win2000pro he is winme.
any suggestions about how to set up something like this or links are highly appreciated.

Goto www.download.com and get Serv-U
That is a pretty simple FTP server program.
Chances are you will not get any firewall with your DSL, if you do, well then you got a little bit more work to do, else your done
