How can I keep my load temps down?

I just put together my new rig. I have a Athlon 64 3200+ on a Asus K8N E Deluxe. I'm currently using the Zalman 7000A AlCu with AS5, but I still get idle temps of 46C, and load temps over 60C. I have 2x120mm intake fans, and 1x120mm exhaust. Would it make much difference if I got another exhaust fan?

Also, my MoBo has a Cool 'N' Quiet option that regulates cpu power and the such. Should I enable this function? The system is not overclocked.

It might. Check to make sure you have clean wiring and no obstructions of air flow.
Putting an intake on the SIDE door helped me out a lot.

No it will make system hotter

I currently have an exhaust on the side door. I had the case in a compartment that did obstruct airflow a little. Now it's on my desk, and running at about 57C. Should I arrange my wirring better, or doesn't that improve airflow.

Before I try to put an intake on the side, I need at least 2 fans to do exhaust.

Right now having two 120mm in and 120mm out is too much in and not enough out. You temps are so high because the fan cannot pull out all of the hot air. The most you should have is 5 more CFM in than out, otherwise heat build up will occur. Also, are you using AS5 on that zalman heatsink? It's help alot.

Yeah I have Arctic Silver 5 on it. Thanks for the advice. Until I get a new fan, i'll turn off one of the intake and await what happens.

I installed another exhaust fan in the back, and it solved the problem. By the way, I have all 80mm, not 120 as I previously stated. Idle temps are around 38C, while load temps are at 45C generally and only rarely reach a high at 52C. Thanks again for the help. If I'm able to get 2 more 80mm, i'll set it up so that I have 2 intakes up front and on the side, while having 3 on the back. I'm curious to see as to how this setup might work.

Umm.... ever heard the phrase 'puff puff pass'? 'Cause I want whatever you're smoking...

Cool 'n' Quiet is exactly that: Cool and Quiet. It throttles down the cpu when not being used to 100%, and therefore keeps the processor cooler when at idle / not under load. It won't help load temps, but it'll reduce those idle temps a fair bit.

Edit: The quiet part comes into play if your cpu fan is throttled on cpu temp, which imo it should be. Idle temps never hurt the system, so no reason why you wouldn't want to slow it down when cooler. If you both enable CnQ and throttle the fan, I'd say you'll still end up with a cooler idling system than before.

People, don't post if you have no idea what you're talking about (i.e. squirtle). Glad to see it got fixed, balanced airflow is the key to a good system.

Cool N Quiet must be different than what is on my Asus machine. I can throttle down my fan in my BIOS and THAT is what I thought he was talking about.

Thank you for the "People do not post if you do not know what you are talking about: comment.
Personal attack would have been nicer in a PM

Guess a person cannot make an honest mistake here

The ASUS thing to throttle the cpu fan is Q-Fan. This is an ASUS specific thing (most mobo makers have a form of it, just that only ASUS calls it Q-Fan). Cool 'N' Quiet is an AMD thing that's available in Athlon 64s - it's the chip that does the throttling there, the motherboard just supports it / enables it.

Sorry if we seem harsh, but it is rather frustrating when you're trying to help people with informed responses and then get others who just make incorrect statements. Something I hate worse seeing, however, is those that make comments without reading the entire thread (note this doesn't apply to you Squirtle - just another rant of mine :)).

Yeah let's all just get along...

BTW, you messed up your smiley... it's supposed to be : roll ; (spaces are to keep the smiley from showing) to make

lol :p

Glad to see your system got cooler! I'm running the exact same thing in the way of the mobo/cpu and HSF. I idle at 38-40 and load goes no higher than 49, but I have a huge case (Thermaltake V2000A) and that doesn't help temps to stay lower necessarily. I also did the wire management, cuz before I was ~3 degrees higher on idle and load, so I think that's one of the most important things to do to the system. The 7 fans running at 59 CFM doesn't hurt either... Good luck getting your system cooler!

I did not know this. I apologize and stand corrected. Being an Intel fanboy :) I thought it was like ours.
