hey guys, im sure u get sick of these posts, but imma bother you again :D

my rig right now:
AMD 64 3000+ Winnie @2.43GHz (270HTT) 1.5 volts (+ 5%)
MSI K8N Neo2 BIOS v1.3
2x 512MB Geil DDR500 @ 270MHz 1:1 3-4-4-7 2.8 volts (dont care about timings)
EVGA 6800GT @410/1.1GHz
AntecTruePower 430W

any ideas on what i should do to make this faster for gaming? i dont know how to set ram deviders, or if i can even on my mobo. my ram is the limiting factor right now, and im pretty sure i can push my processor to 2.6GHz on stock cooling. i have AS5 on it, and i idle at 36C, load at 56C.

thanks a TON guys,
nick

there is a setting under Dram Timings called Max Megahertz ,

its set to auto as default. change it to 166, this will stop your ram from being the limiting factor.

also make sure HTT is set to 3x at that fsb speed.

thanks for the reply, my htt was at 3. i dont want to set my ram at 166, that is friggin slow. keep in mind: i have DDR500 ram, its good @ 250MHz 2.5-4-4-7 1T. which would be faster:

2.61GHz processor, 290htt*9 w/ memory at 200

OR

2.43GHz processor, 270htt w/ memory at 270

would the extra 200MHz of processor speed make up for the 70MHz in lost memory speed?

and btw tyrant, how can i get my 6800GT up to your speeds? they are the same chip, just downclocked arent they? should I increase the AGP voltage in my BIOS? right now my max stable speeds are 410/1000. yours are 440/1200!!

See here--1:1 doesn't make a whole lot of difference. To see how much higher your RAM will go, though, loosen timings to CL3, since MHz is much more important than CAS latency with RAM.

wow, i just realized that setting the ram at 166 is not slow :D
i set my ram to 166, 2.5-4-4-7, and with at 300htt the ram is running at 245Mhz!!! how come i set the max memspeed to 166, but it is running at 245MHz? 300htt (2.7GHz) is not stable though, it failed prime95. im going to experament with lowering the cpu multi and finding a sweet spot in the 325htt range :D ill keep you updated on my findings, and how far i can go on stock cooling. tips on getting my 6800gt higher would be appriciated also.
thanks,
nick

When you set the memory to 166 like that, it's running a divider--the 166 assumes stock HTT of 200. I forget how it increases though; whether it goes up 4/5 MHz (it's roughly a 4:5 divider) or 1 MHz for each additional 1 MHz HTT. [[EDIT: It would be 4/5 MHz. To compute RAM speed based on the divider you run, take (RAM speed setting/200) * HTT = actual memory speed.]]

oh, gotcha. i think im done tweaking with the mobo bios, now i need to finalize my video card settings. heres my oc right now:

3000+ @ 2.4GHz, 300HTT 1.44 volts. it didnt seem stable at 2.6+ GHz. oh well.
MSI K8N Neo2
ram running at 240MHz with 166 devider. 2.5-4-4-7 2.8 volts
im pretty sure this will be stable, ill be gaming all afternoon and ill run prime95 all night to see for sure.
thanks guys

If you're running at 2.4GHz, your HTT is 266, not 300 (unless you decreased your multiplier, for some weird reason--I'd leave it at 9). To make higher overclocks stable, you're going to need to up your VCore a bit, though you'll have to ask someone else what's safe.

yeah, i realized that a lower multi is pretty dumb, so im back at my original oc of 270HTT 2.43GHz, with the memory at 1:1. ill try pumping up the vcore to maybe 1.5, to see if that stablizes 2.5-2.6GHz.
