I want to listen to my games through my receiver.
I already have a 5.1 system and i wonder if can take advantage of it.
Right now i don't even have a sound card. Although i have been checking the Audigy 2 ZS.
Is it possible?
Thanks
:D

If your receiver has 6 channel direct input, that A2 would be a good pick.

If it has 6 channel direct (also called 5.1 input and some other names), you just need three of these and then run RCA cable to your receiver.

If your receiver doesn't have 5.1 analog input, you can still get surround sound from games, but you'll have to get a card that supports Dolby Digital Live. There are now several cards out with this feature including one from Bluegears, Turtle Beach, etc... but creative doesn't have a card that supports it right now.

Hello Yo Yo,

In an effort to show off my horrendous ignorance:
I thought one of the important features of the new X-Fi series was supposed to be real time Dolby Digital Encoding. WTF?

An important feature of the X-Fi is that it's an incremental hardware upgrade with X-RAM over the Audigy 2 ; P

Thanks!
I have a Pioneer VSX-209 but haven't been able to find out if it has the 6 channel direct input.
Should it say on it in the back?
How does it look like?
If i end up not having it, i will just buy the card and some headphone, and then later on buying some better speakers (spend about $50 or $60).

Whoops, sorry I forgot about this thread.

I tried looking up the Pioneer 209 manual on Pioneer's site, but they don't have it. They have the 309 and that has 5.1 input, but I'm not sure on the 209.

It would be a grouping of 6 RCA inputs on the back and tend to be multicolored. This is different than pre-outs, but they would look pretty much the same.

It should be labeled 5.1 or 6 channel on the back of the receiver.

Even without 5.1, you'll be able to hook up a receiver and get some output.
You can get 5 channel stereo or a surround processing like PrologicII or whatever your receiver supports.
