I have an ehiem 1250 water pump in my water cooling system. I want to run it so when i turn the cpu on, the pump also starts. any ideas? i was thinkin a relay, but dont really want to cut the end of the power cord from the pump. help electrical peopel

You'll need to splice wires somewhere. Though I'd recommend soldering and covering with heatshrink tubing.

You could run a 12v relay (with contacts rated for 120v) off of an extra 12v connector from your PS and have the relay turn on the current to the pump.

is that the only way, thats what i was thinking. but i really didnt want to have to cut the end off the pump 🙁 in case it didnt work. here is what i was thinking. use the relay and attach the 12v wires from the cpu to one end. then attach the wires from the pump on one side and a spliced extension cord to the other side. then plug the extention cord into the wall??? that sound resonable?

do they make a relay that allows you to plug things into it. ie: so i dont have to cut the end off the pump?

wire a mains recepticle/plug cord ends (1male to go into the wall and one female for the pump) to the relay contacts and plug your pump in(this is a 120V pump right?). wire up a molex connector to the 12V coil terminals of the relay. Insulate all of this so you don't get any stray current going anywhere and you shoud be golden.

If you are in the US you should be able to get the relay from RatShack and the plug ends and wire from HomeDepot/Menards/Lowes/your favorite hardware store
