How can I hook a molex device up externally?

Ok, I know this is an odd question but I have an odd idea. I really want to get a backlight keyboard for gaming at night since my keyboard tray does not get any light from the lcd screen. I looked at the ecplise and other backlight keyboards but the cost is too much, especially since I go through a keyboard every year.

After digging around I found I have several unused cold cathods here and started thinking... what if I mounted one of them beneath my desk over the keyboard tray. It would illuminate the keyboard and I could keep on destroying my <$10 keyboards with much abandon.

So now that I like that idea power comes into play. I found a molex ac adapter for $12 and I can find 12" molex extensions for $.32. Which route should I take? Run a bunch of extensions from the inside of the case to the desk or go with an adapter? Or is there another way I'm missing?

Thanks for any help!

Buy a wall wart style ac adapter of the correct voltage, and fit a molex connector on the end. You might even have an adapter lying around. I always save mine for projects around the house.

Maybe if you spent more than $10 you could get a keyboard that last more than a year.

stick a cheap ikea grono lamp with a 3watt or whatever cf from ikea behind the lcd... bias lighting + keyboard spill over.
