How can I get Windows Update Back?

Using Guides from Tweaktown and Black Viper for Win XP (Home, SP1, SP1 Rollup) and I must have gotten a bit carried away with diabling services...

When I tried to run Windows Update, it shot me out to the website and installed the latest version of update, but then when I tried to "look" for the latest updates to install it just "sat there". All my choices were "greyed out".

So, I remembered the tweaking and used services.msc to make Windows update "automatic", instead of disabled but still no go. I'm thinking theres another service that must run or a reg hack to fix this.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Yes, I believe both those things you suggest are diabled. Wondering what else (if anything) comes into play with preventing Win Update from working properly. If turning on the service you suggest get it working again then that's GREAT.

Otherwise, it looks like I need the sledghammer approach and will be changing all the "disables" to "auto"... Not eager to do that.

The crypto(or, was it encryption) service...about 2-3 down from the top of the services list(assuming alphebetical listing) is the one I belive you want...sorry, not running winXP right now(using linux), so I can't get any more specific.
