how can I get win2k to claim HD partition back?

I used some partition software to reclaim a few gigs. Ranish Partition manager shows the windows partition as 30 gig, but in windows i'm still only showing 20 Gig (the old partition size). How can I get Windows to recognize that it has more room?

yeah I rebooted.
I've tried reseting it through the device manager also.

Boot with a Win98 floppy and see what FDISK shows (it may not recognize it as NTFS but it will show how big it is). Or use the XP Recovery Console's "diskpart" utility. You might try the "fixmbr" command also.

Oh, also, you DID resize the actual Windows partition right? You didn't just remove the old 10GB partition.

This maybe a little off but i had this happen with a compaq server, once installed it only saw 8gig of a 250gig raid array.

Turns out that the raid driver only saw 8gig when it installed, so windows showed the drive as 250gig but only could use 8gig of it, really weird looking at the differences between the drive properties window and diskmanager.

Compaq said to reinstall as there is no easy way to change the way windows sees a drive if it was setup or modified incorreclty.

You may have luck with a program like partition manager, but i'm pretty sure that only works if you actually have freespace.

You may be able to do it in Disk Management. It's in Administrator Tools, Computer Management.
