How can I get my PX-708A to burn dual-layer media?!?

I remember seeing some posts on various tech forums a few months ago in which people allegedely downloaded and installed the drivers for one of Sony's DVD+R Dual-layer drives and installed them for their "same generation" Single-layer Sony DVD burner. Supposedly there is little to no difference in the hardware so it comes down to it being software-enabled functionality. Is there any validity to this? And if so how can I make my Plextor PX-708A burn Dual-Layer media?

The only link I've found so far linked to an updated driver for the Plextor PX-708A / PX-708UF DVD±R/RW Firmware v 1.08.

Is it as simple as installing this updated firmware?

I refuse to believe that nobody on the Mod-happy Anandtech forums has gotten their Plextor to burn dual-layer media.

im gonna guess through a firmware hack, go ahead and try one, but you might end up with a dead burner, I have the 708a and have no desire to make it do DL, Dl media is still too expensive and slow
