I have tried everything, even the products that claim they will remove sap. Any advice?

Unless you're talking about that football player, it's sap.

Have you tried that bug remover stuff?

I used to have that problem, and I found that steel wool worked pretty well. Of course, it was on a '78 Catalina, which was already 1/2 rust and 1/2 paint. Man, I miss that old boat. :(

Rubbing alcohol works, but you need to wax the car afterwards...which I haven't done so it might really ****** things up. Do a google search.

I've tried it, and it worked. But I had to use boiling hot water and go after the sap 4 times over 30 minutes (unlike the claimed 15 seconds)

My former landlord cut some branches off a tree which then proceeded to bleed sap all over the roof and hood of my car.
Getting it off the windshield was a pain.
No chemical worked to get it off the body except scratch pads which then left marks in the paint.
I had to use one of those micro-abressive paint restorers to make it look normal again.
That was just the hood. The stuff on the roof is still there.

Denatured alcohol. I used to work in a detail shop. I would wax after you are done, so plan on spending several hours washing, drying with chamois, denatured alcohol on tar, sap, etc. and then a good wax.

Steam...now that is a dasm fine idea. I have seen people use gas/diesel (I do not recommend) and tar/sap remover.

Wonder if Goo Gone or Goo Off would work?

I would gently scrape it off with a razor blade without touching the paint and then use a paint cleaner to get the final thin layer off. Follow that up with a coat of wax.

I know that if you get pitch on your hands, butter or margarine (or any oil, I guess) will soften it so that it will wash off. Wonder if it would work on cars?

Use BLEACH thats how i cleaned it off boat gel coat. Edit: it wont take off the wax either.
