How can I get Buttons 4 and 5 to work on my mouse?

I am running windows 98 using a boomslang 2000 on a USB port. I have despertly tried to get the buttons 4 and 5 to work in Tribes 1 and 2 with no success. I know it can be done as others have gotten it to work yet under tribes my computer thinks the buttons 4 and 5 have the same action as button 3. Any help would be much apperciated.

unistall all the mouse software.And reinstall.It worked for me
