I've made a site for about 2 weeks but it seems it's very tough to generate traffic.

Any suggestions?

No wonder so many dotcoms are saying bye bye.

using popular high profile words to get a search engine's attention is risky business..

For good SE placement, best to use highly concentrated tags with less common words and phrases that best describe/suit your page.

for instance, if your page is all about speakers, best to stick with things like &quot;speakers, woofers, tweeters, audiophile, listening, etc..&quot; than to load your page down with terms like &quot;taxes, britney spears, travel, bikini, etc&quot;..

concentrated keywords in meta tags and as close to the top of the page as you can get them will boost the keyword relevance and get you the targeted traffic your looking for. In many cases some &quot;generic&quot; keywords are SO overused they're practically ignored by search engines, or most often the case, you're up against SO many other people using them that it's nearly impossible to get a decent listing at an engine.

Also, I read you had the site submitted to 300 sites. Though that's good, it's best to do the &quot;big ones&quot; by hand (excite, altavista, etc).

Start including adult words and links into it for all sorts of things..just go hog wild in the source code. Then register....i can't write in here what you would normally put but if you search for warez 8/10 sites will be links to p0rn. Just know what kind of audience your tailoring too and if they don't mind seeing your site when you have those words put into the search engine.

I'd guess its because you have no actual content. Besides links to other sites (which is helpful, but probably won't cause people to come back after one visit) and news stories from other sites, you're basically not giving the reader any reason to remember, or even bookmark your site.

Yahoo has expanded quickly. It started off as a search engine &amp; topic-based links site. From there it went on to have shopping, auctions, news, email and storage, information on a broad range of topics, and almost anything else you can think of, plus a half-decent search engine.

I'm not too sure how much Web Site Garage should be trusted. I ran Anandtech's main page through there and got this:

Your site runs sufficiently fast that it wouldn't bother me (and I hate slow sites).

datafly may be onto something - i haven't used this websitegarage but if its looking at things like netscape 3.0 who gives a damn. You should first build for newer internet explorers, then take care of the people who are silly enough to use netscape if you can be bothered (Later versions not old ones). If you look at the stats and surfing trends people who are running on netscape 3.0 aren't likely to visit sites much anyway. Fvck em.

HAHA Don't even bother with website garage. Notice its &quot;websitegarage.netscape.com&quot; no wonder it complains about sites being setup badly.
