How can I find what socket my cpu is?

Hi, I have a p4 1.5 ghz and was wondering how I can find out what socket cpu i have. I know its a williamette, but know those come in socket 423 and 478 I have a dell, so i dont know what it is. If its 478, can i upgrade to a northwood? Is it worth it?

What mainboard do you have? if you know that just RTFM

You could also pop the heatsink off and take a look

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 motherboard with Rambus, if that helps. Its a Dell so it didnt come with a manual. How can i tell by looking at the processor?

I believe Dell keeps detailed specs of their computers. I'm betting that if you call them and give them your serial number, they'll be able to look it up for you.
