How can I find out the domain name number of a Web site?

in a dos windows type:

ping www.microsoft.com

and you will get something like:

Pinging www.microsoft.akadns.net [207.46.230.218] with 32 bytes of data:

with the part that I bolded being the ip address. You could also do a whois search at this link, just type in the domain without the www...
