I may be in the market for a cell phone here soon, so I would like to know from independent sources which carrier has best signal strength/coverage. Anyone know of such a resource?

Those statistics are not very accurate, and I dont think anyone has actually done such extensive tests. "can you hear me now?" is the best way to do such a test, and even driving around in a car checking for signal strength is burdensome.

I find talking to friends, coworkers, or family members with different cell phone plans the "best" bet. Also, you have 30 days to try out a service (verizon does it for free, not sure about others, but u can return plan and phone within 30 days for full refund except calls u make or the 1 month fee). So talk to people see what they say, try it out. You will likely visit all the places that u spend most of ur time multiple times in 30 days and do your own research :)

most carriers have a clause where you can get out of your contract within the first 14-30 days (sometimes depends on your state). Personally, ask around first, then try the 2 or 3 carriers that are reccomended most. Test them everywhere you make a call. At home, at work, on the road, at the gym, ect. Dont port over you number untill you find the carrier/equipment you plan to keep.
