How can I enable UDMA for my Kenwood True-X in Win2K?

I have a new Kenwood 72x drive... Programs are saying that it is not able to read subchannel data, and It is only ripping audio at 4x.

It may be due to the fact that UDMA is not enabled, but I'm not sure how to do it in Win2K.

Also, does anyone know if this drive is supposed to read subchannel data?

Hi,

Sorry I don't know anything about that drive in particular, so can't help with the extraction info, but I can help with the procedure for setting up DMA.

Go into the Device Manager, but instead of looking for a setting under the entry for the drive itself, expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" item. You should double-click on the Primary IDE Channel or Secondary IDE Channel (whichever one your CD drive is on) and look on the Advanced Settings tab. Normally the Device Type drop-down selector should be set at "Auto Detect", and the Transfer Mode drop-down selector should be set at "DMA if available". The actual transfer mode being used will be shown in the Current Transfer Mode box.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Jim

Thanks....

The DAE is working beautifuly now.... Still can not read subchannel data. 🙁 It looks like I may have to do a return after all.

You're welcome. I'm sorry that it all comes to nought. I've heard that the drive is really nice, and really fast. Is there any chance that Kenwood tech support could help?

Good luck!

Jim

firmware maybe? Change of ide chain used and master/slave settings could help too, if another drive could be upsetting it.

Right now, I'm not very happy with Kennwod tech support. The site has been down for over a week... I tried calling today and I actually got voicemail. No live person at all.

I will wait a couple more days...

Good grief! Now that's what I call unreachable tech support! How the heck are you supposed to RMA that thing, much less get actual technical advice?

Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed and still go on hoping that it works out for you.

Regards,
Jim

I won't need to RMA it... I purchased it locally a few days ago... I will just return it.

Thanks for all of the help though... still looking for info on the subchannel data
