I have an XFX R9 290 card with one DisplayPort, one HMDI and two DVI plugs. I want to buy three monitors with one DVI and one VGA plug each. Is it possible to make Eyefinity work? I know there's plugs and adapters - but some are active, some are passive and do I need to have at least one monitor with a Displayport to make this work? Is it possible?

Thanks.

Hello,

The 290's no longer require display port monitors to utilize eyefinity, however, im not certan if the passive adapters work just as well as the active adapters.

I know its possible to drive 2 DVI and 1 HDMI as a 3 monitor eyefinity setup with the new Hawaii GPU, however, i'm not certain if you need to use an active adapter in the Displayport IF using the displayport. Can anyone confirm this? If not, please open a ticket at xfxsupport.com or ill have it tested myself.

Thanks

It might be easiest to use an HDMI to DVI adapter / cable and not bother with the DP port at all. A passive DP adapter should work just fine, though. If you are using higher than 1080P resolution you will need an active adapter. Stay away from HDMI in that case, as well.
