How can I enable ATA100 for my hard drive?

I just got a new Seagate 60GB 7200RPM hard drive and I would like to know how to switch it to ATA100. I have BIOS on Autodetect, and it sets the drive to UDMA4, which I believe, is ATA66. I went into BIOS and changed the hard drive from Auto to User Settings, and I was able to get UDMA5. However, I was reluctant to do it because I was afraid that it would mess up my computer. Does anyone know if I am doing the right thing? If not, please send any suggestions over. Thanks in advance.

usually, you let the bios do it's auto thing and dont' touch it

most manufacturers have a little program you download to "enable" ata 100 on your hard drive

then, assuming you're running an 80 pin cable into an ata100 controller with the correct drivers installed, you'll be up and running at ata100

Well, I downloaded the utility from Seagate, and it confirmed that I had selected ATA100, but when it boots, it still stays at UDMA4. I use the ribbon cable that came with my motherboard, so I assume that it's ATA100-compatible. I'll check the cable out though. Thanks for your input sohcrates.
