How can I edit read-only files?

I think I figured out why I have two folders in My Documents that I have pictures in are read only. I downloaded those particular pictures from my digital camera memory card onto a cd at a friend's house and then brought it home and moved them into a folder off of the cd. Are all data that are saved onto a CD first read-only or is it because they were saved onto a CD from a different computer or the way a session was closed after burning date onto a CD? Is there any way to change the pictures on this particular CD from not being read only so that I can edit it?

On the CD directly you can't do anything about it. Save them to your computer instead and right-click the file, choose Properties, and uncheck the "read-only" box, apply it and then close.

That was the first thing I checked - right click and check the current attribute under properties - amazingly the read-only box was unchecked on both of my folders. Any other ideas?

Go into the directory, select a picture, and see if it's Read-Only. If not, try to open it... does it act as if it's Read-Only even then?

By default, files copied from a read-only media will have the read only bit set (that doesnt' mean the directory will, just the files themselves)

Yea, i have come across this problem in XP. You have to open a command window force the change, but for the life of me i cant remember the command. Its at home and i will post it if youre still having problems later.

No you don't. There is no magic here, he checked the read only property on the folder instead of on the files themselves.
