I have some old 8mm tapes that I found and really wanna show them to my Dad. The tapes say 8mm video P6-60 on them.

Whats the best and cheapest way to do this ? I don't have the camera that they tapes were shot on anymore. Any help is appreciated.

um, what kind of equipment do you have now, just the vcr and the tapes?

lets see, there might be an easier way, but get 2 vcrs hooked up so you can record vhs to vhs, then get a 8mm to vhs adapter at retail store ( cc, gg, bb, etc.) then pop it in one vcr and record on the other.

Just go buy a 8mm camcorder and hook it up to a VCR. 8mm camcorders are dirt cheap now. Also, I've never heard of an adapter that you can pop into a 8mm tape to a VHS tape. I don't think that exists, also if it did exist the picture quality wouldn't be very good. They make a VHS-C tape that is smaller than VHS which has an adapter that you can pop into a VHS tape.

There's a reason that vhs-c format came about: to play the tape with a regular vcr using an adapter. 8mm tapes cannot be played in a regular vcr. There's no such thing as an adapter for 8mm to vhs.

Just find someone that has an 8mm camcorder, hook it up to your tv and record it.

Don't buy it. Rent it if you have to but there gotta be someone you know who has a 8mm camcorder. The cheapest 8mm camcorder will still cost you at least $200 (maybe you can find it cheaper on ebay for a used one). But I don't think it's worth buying an old technology equipment just for the purpose of copying few tapes. Just ask around.

Guys I dont know how old stifko is talking about but I bet he is talking about the old 8 mm the kind that you had to use a projector for(film)..then they had super 8 movie film I had tapes from the 40s and 50s and even the 70s and 80s that I had to project into a box and at the same time have to record with a 8mm (as we know it ) video cam or I guess you could just use a regular vhs video cam. After rereading his post I might be wrong perhaps he is talking about 8mm tape...guess that shows my age...I think of the 8mm and super 8mm movie film as old ...still cool to watch family films from 55 years ago!!!

Oops didn't think about the old 8mm tapes. I'm looking at one of my 8mm tapes made by sony and it says P6-15MP. I'm not sure what the P6 stands for but the 15MP means it's a 15 minute metal particle tape. Also, circuit city usually has them on sale for about $200. I've had my 8mm camcorder since 1990 and I'm still amazed that it still works. Every once awhile I'd get it out of the closet and record with it. A few months back I taped a family gathering and some of the family member asked for a copy of the event. On the side of my sony it has 1 video connection (yellow) and two audio connection (red and white) I would select the input/output switch to output and hook the other end to a 4 head VCR. It's pretty similar to hooking up a playstation. Anyways good luck on finding a 8mm camcorder. Oh yeah, they do make an 8mm VCR which I've seen on sale for $125 at one time. You won't have any luck on finding those though. Apparently they didn't sell very well and it never got as popular as VHS.
