How can I download Google Play Books (that I paid for) to a PDF

Title says it all. Scrolling through Google Books on my browser with it's abysmal refresh rate and lag is absolutely maddening!!

I've googled several different methods of trying to do this but nothing works. Some of the so-called "downloader" programs simply smack of hidden Trojans/adware, whatnot so I've been reluctant to install anything.

Is there a legitimate (or even a 'grey area') method of grabbing a Google Play Book, that I legitimately bought and paid for, down to my hard drive?
I'm trying to work on a project for my masters and the horrible performance of the browser/reader is about to make me murderous.
