(XP SP2)

everytime after boot i get this balloon tooltip that my Local Area Connection is connected - well, yes it freaking is because i am connected to a router/broadband 24/7 :)

How can i disable that balloon without disabling all other balloon-tips in XP altogether ?

thanks

(btw. sounds simple...but a quick google didnt really bring anything up)

To disable Ballon tips in Windows XP do this registry tweak
Go to : HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced
Create a new DWORD value, name it EnableBalloonTips, and set it equal to 0. If EnableBalloonTips is already there and equal to 1, set it equal to 0. Quit the registry editor, log off, and log back on. Voila! Your computer will stop talking down to you.

Maybe somewhere in there you can locate just that single instance you wish to disable?

Right click My Network Places
Select Properties

Right click Local Area Connection
Select Properties

Two check boxes at the bottom will take care of the problem. Several choices on what you want to see, or not see.

the two checkboxes are for putting the icon in the tray
or for notification when there is a problem with connectivity.

Not for disabling the balloon tip.

Registry should work.

My reasoning was to just eliminate the icon altogether. Or, to notify you only when you had lost connectivity. From the tone of your post, it sounded as though you really didn't need the icon anyway. Since you're connected 24/7. :)

You can also stop the icon from appearing in the tray and thus stop the balloons by turning off that option in the Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on your LAN connection and choose properties. Uncheck the box that says Show Icon in Notification Area When Connected.
