How can I disable a device driver from starting when WinXP boots?

I had the Highpoint IDE RAID controller until I realized it's crappy and disabled it. [I uninstalled the device in Device Manager and then turned it off in the BIOS] But the error still is logged, and I'm wondering if that is the cause of my stuttering audio :roll:.

AFAIK, you do so by disabling it. Forget the exact syntax in winXP, but, in 98, it's right-click on device in device manager, properties...check disable in this hardware profile. Basically, just look for something along the lines of disabling a device.

You need to install the drivers under WinXP even if you
do not plan on using the RAID Controller.

WinXP will detect the controller even if it is disabled in the BIOS.

BS man, I disabled the controller in BIOS before uninstalling the device from device manager and it disappeared from the list.

yelo333, I basically did that but was looking if I could change something in the lines of a "boot.ini" (which didn't tell me anything) that has a list of drivers to load. Sort of like a safe boot with selective driver control.
