How can I determine what is using so much of my system resources?

I guess I don't know what levels they should be but it seems like they are lower than what anticipated.

As soon as I boot into Win98SE (and before I have opened any applications) the resources are down to about 80 percent. If I open up Netscape I'm down to below 70%.

Is that about par or should I have more available resources?

Is there a way to see how much CPU time and Mem Usage my applications are using (like we can do in WinNT)?

Thanks, Rnmcd

One of the programs in Norton Utilities does it. On Win2K side of my machince, so I can't tell you what it is. Nuts & Bolts has something, too, I think.

windows comes with its own system monitor or system resource monitor. its under accessories, tools in the startup menu. if it is not there you probably need to add that windows component yourself from the control panel.

I would suggest downloading RegClean. You can get it off of a link at www.tweak3d.net.
Wonderful multipurpose utility that does MORE than just clean your registry. You can look at resourse consumption, see what takes up the most space on your HD, clean out unnecessary temp files and duplicates. Overall, it's a nice program.

The 'System Monitor' and 'System Information' programs in Win98SE don't seem to provide the same information as WinNT. WinNT tells you how much CPU time and memory usage each piece of software the you
have open is using.

Do I need to get another program to obtain this information about a Win98SE machine?

<< But Netscape is a good burnin program ("Hilarious somuter related stories")... Just count the instances you can run, and how many porn banners can viewed >>

I love that story! Still thinking about it today and laughing.

Wintop is a handy little program that works with W98SE. It does not tell the memory useage but does tell the processor useage of each program.
