How can I cut scenes from a DVD?

Say I want to take my favorite DVD movie, put it into my DVD-ROM and cut screen images to create a desktop theme or wallpaper. WHat do I need to do this? Is there software available? I have all of the DVD player software (InterVideo, Asus DVD) etc. DO I need special hardware also? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

You can take pics with PowerDVD.,, if you can't get a register version just download the Trial 30 day version it'll work the same.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. Does anyone know if the Asus DVD application is based on PowerDVD?
