How Can I Convert MPEG to DVD Format for Television?

I just purchased the Sony DRU-500 DVD Burner. I have movies that I downloaded off of Kazaa. Is it possible to take those movies that are in MPEG form and convert them to a format that I can burn on to a dvd disc and then play on my television dvd player. Is this possible? What format is recognized by television dvd players? Is there software that can do this?

DVD is MPEG-2. VCD is MPEG-1. Your DVD player should play both.

Check with your DVD burning software and DVD player for compatibility.
