How can I change icons?

For instance, SetiHide.exe shows up in Explorer with a bright green icon. Not exactly the best thing for a file I'm attempting to hide.

I have no problem changing icons for items on the desktop, but what's the trick for doing it in Explorer? (I don't want to change all *.exe files, just this one?)

Well instead of changing icons (try properties, right click) why not try installing the cli as a service?

I tried setihide and found it flaky on our network. I didn't feel like i could trust it. I am now converting them over using Da Shrubbers files: Da Shrubber This is for win98se machines, look elsewhere for winnt or 2k

No icons to worry about and the only thing that shows up is when you hit ctrl+alt+delete, you see a program called winoldap.

check it out. Might be a better overall solution. Also, after converting from setihide, to service, I have seen slightly better times.

So far, SetiHide has been working good for the most part. I have not ruled out running CLI as a service. I will check out the file you mentioned (but as a service, are instructions added to the autoexec.bat?)

As for changing the icon, properties won't do it from while I'm in Windows Explorer.

Yes, you can in fact.

I found this utility a few months back, it's good for extracting resources (icons, strings, etc) from exe/dll files, and as I just found out a few moments ago, you can also remove such things.

Download off my private site, because I don't remember where I found it.

I should note, it can't change the icon AFAIK, only delete.

artemedes.... da shrubber looks like a something worth trying. You've found it to be fairly stealth? No crashes? No lock-ups?

Also, is there any way to monitor it? At least with SetiHIDE, and can check out the production of each machine. I'd rather not run ANOTHER service to log the WU info.

My service install actually already runs SETILog so that'll log the WU's, and then you can read the log files with SETIWatch or whatever you want.
