OMG my dad is furious with Sony and with me...let me explain.
My dad recently taped 14 hours of Jain lectures (some famous Jains were staying with us and doing a tour of the states to give lectures etc.) Now my dad wants to put all these lectures on the PC. They are all in audio and videocassette. Note, my dad had expressed permission to record these lectures so he "0wNz" them.
So daddy wants a fast way to digitize these and transfer them to PC. Since they are only speech, I suggested ATRAC3 on a minidisc to archive them (much smaller than cassette) and then I suggested he use a NetMD recorder to transfer them highspeed to a PC. NetMD advertises 32x transfer...so for 14 hours worth this is a bonus!!! Plus he won't have any of the sync issues he'd have recording through the sound card (which would be analog and "impure".)
Of course, AFTER we buy the NZ-707 (like $220) we realize we can't transfer from NetMD to PC. WTF??? EVERYTHING that comes into the recorder (whether through line-in or mic-in) is flagged as copyrighted so you can't record it???? How stupid is that? And why did Sony advertise transferring to the PC then? A quick trip to Sony's OpenMG forums reveals lots of fuming frustrated users, lots of talk of lawsuits, lots of moderated/deleted posts, etc. Apparently, this is a major source of pain for NetMD users. I have not yet found a solution.
EDIT: NetMD will be sold. Now we need another solutionCan anyone offer any help? All we wanna do is transfer the lecture files from minidisc to PC through the USB port...i.e. FASTER THAN REALTIME.
