how can i boot linux

i have a laptop with windows XP installed. then i installed slack 10. during instalation it tried to install lilo and failed. it also wouldnt create a bootable floppy(maybe because i is conected via usb?). i cant get linux to start. EVERY faq or guide about dual booting requires you to be inside linux.

my 2 questions:
1. how can i start linux? so i then can change lilo.
2. is there not an EASY way to change the mbr? like put this program on a floppy and run it.

Does slack have a rescue cd? If so download the iso and burn it. You can then boot from the rescue cd and fix your installation.

okay you got me thinking and after some more reading i found that the second install cd is the rescue one...now i just have to figure out this whole linux thing...thanks!

-edit-

so uh...how do i start the gui? or can i start it from the rescue disk?
