I am going to format my HD and i want to backup my e-mails from Outlook Express and Outlook 200 without the use of a special program. Right now i am using Win98 SE. If someone can help i would like to know if the procedure is the same for all operating systems (Win98, Win2000, WinXP). Thanks

For Outlook 2000:

Do a search for outlook.pst

Copy this

For OE:

Go to Tools -> Options, Maintenance, Store Folder. Copy the path listed here, paste into Windows Explorer, then copy all the files there 🙂

To restore, do same but move files in other direction 🙂

I will try it tomorrow. Thanks for the help! What do you mean "in another direction"?

Well, instead of copying them from the Outlook/Outlook Express directories to the backup device, copy from backup device to the outlook/oe folders 🙂

Just remember when you copy them back after reinstalling Windows/Office, that the programs are not open when you try to copy, or it probably won't let you 🙂

Hope it works for you, it has done for me doing this...when i remember to! 🙂😉

For future reference, just designate a location to which your emails & address should be saved within OE/Outlook. Then whenever you want to reinstall or upgrade the OS, you don't have to do a darn thing. Just reinstall the OS and point to the location (you can use export/import function as well) where your emails are saved.
