How can I add custom refresh rates and resolutions

Windows 98 is limiting my monitor to 75Hz for the refresh rate but I know that it can run at 85Hz. Is there a place in the registry that I can add an extra refresh rate? Also, where do I go to add custom screen resolutions. I know that Anand said how to do it in XP but the registry key is not the same for other versions of Windows.

I don't have a win98 machine but here's the basics:

Win98 presents you a list of refresh rates/resolutions/color depth that both your monitor AND your video card will support. If Win98 misdetects the monitor, it will hide certain settings from you.

Go to display control panel and manually select the biggest, baddest, most whiz bang monitor on the list that supports every resolution and refresh rate known to man. See if that helps.

Where did Anand say how to do it in the XP registry???

NogginBoink: Sometimes the easiest fixes are the hardest to come up with. Thanks for the suggestion. I should have thought of that myself.
