How can I add a right-panel door? Ideas for Sonata.

I want to add a door to the right side on my Sonata, since none exists now. It would make routing cables 200% easier.

I need some help with my Sonata. I can't seem to get it looking clean =/ If you know of any mods - such as adding a fan at the very front of the case like the Super Lanboy, or any ways to get good cabling, I'd be thankful.

zipties are your friend. theres that little cable stash area u can shoove extra cable into around the drive cage too.

Where can I get nice cable sheathing? I want all black. Since I attend UTexas (Go Horns!) I am thinking about installing a window with orange acrylic in the shape of the longhorn head. In that case, I'd do the cable wraps in orange too. Someone used hockey tape to wrap them. It could look good if you spent time with it, but steathes seem so much easier...

wire clutter gets harder and harder to reduce as your components increase in size, or just plain increase in quanity. it's even worse in your sonata, since there is not much room in there to begin with. clutter is basically all you're going to get with a mid-tower case and a good number of components.

the best solution i could come up with was using some PET sleeving, zip ties, and shrink wrap. in otherwords, sleeving everything in there. sleeving the psu would help the most, and using some really small sleeving on case fans would help as well.

replacing flat ribbon ide cables with rounded could clean up the look. you can get custom lengths, and use different ones depending on how far your ide devices are from the headers.

there are also some ahesives you can use to stick wires to the bottom and edges of hte case and clear up more room.

and also, i dont think itll be too difficult for you to find some orange pet sleeving, zip ties, and shrink wrap. you could always buy an orange vantec of techflex sleeving kit if you can't find it. 🙂

Do you have to remove the molex connectors to get the heat shrink on? I would assume so, but that's a pain in the ass.

It's not that bad if you bother to get the tools to do it. Just remember which wires went into which spots and you're fine... The hardest part is getting the materials the correct length and then sliding them over the wire ends. I found that staggering the connections and then using electrical tape over them (tapering it to the end) makes for an easier transition and lets the sleeving and tubing slip right over it.

Next time I open up my system, I'm seriously thinking of sleeving up my power supply lines.

My 300GB Maxtor HD is coming in the mail today ... so I will be removing everything from my case, cleaning, etc. I think I want to mod in a panel on the right side of the case since there is no "motherboard tray". This will help with wiring etc. I also want to paint the inside black. I'm not sure yet, but instead of modding a fan in the from, I'll just do a mesh longhorn. Not sure.

Yes you do , but with the right tool (newegg has em) it is very simple and quick. 🙂

So I was trying to manage my cables ... and I must say ... I thought it was going great, but then it didn't. The best thing I could get is a X-Connect deal or aMolex extension. Also, since I am running Intel, there is a spare cord that I don't need. I heard it was for older boards? I was thinking about cutting it off, sealing with tape, and pushing back into the PSU. Is that alright to do? It is the shear number of cables that I can't deal with.

Also, does anyone know of a mod guide for adding a removable side panel?

I'll post pics of my Sonata tomorrow, gotta borrow my sister's cam.

I hid that spare cord behind my PSU and taped it there, I needed someone with small hands to do it for me, though. My job looks kind of messy, but a lot better than what it used to be. I just need some wire sleeving and it would look 10x better.

And if you do put a side panel in yours, can you tell me what tools you did it with? I want to, but I really have no clue what kind of stuff I should use.

I feel the same way you do. I want all black, so whatever I do, it may take a while. Here's a small and incomplete list:

+Wire sleeving
+Custom window
+Removable right panel
+Painted interior, PSU, expansion card bevels

I am pretty sure now that I will snip a wire from the PSU. I will also modify the two fan only Molexs to be the exact length I need. Currently, wires have to go everywhere. Why is the main 12V so damned long?

I'll start by cutting a clean rectangle from the right side. Since I obviously will not be able to get a clean, flush, factory look, I'll go for something else. I'm thinking that I will add a trim similar to the window mod trim, around the edge. Then do something similar to the case part.

Has anyone seen a case mod like this? Link if you have! The paint will be painless. Since I don't have a molex tool, that may be a pain.

So for this product, it works "for wire bundle diameters from 3/8" to 3" "

Umm, so if it's 3/8", the wires are somewhat loose inside, and if it's 3", you have to "unwrap" it, and rewrap it around the cables? Also, is it neccessary to remove molex connectors and heatshrink this type of sleeve?

Also, I have 2 HDDs, an 80GB WD that has my OS< programs, etc ... and a new 300GB Maxtor SATA. The problem is ... if I mount the 80GB in the 3.5" bay (with the floppy), I don't have to route as much. There should be a place to take a computer for cable management =P

BestByte > Newegg!

I was going to order 4 cables from NewEgg for cheap compared to CrapUSA or BadBuy. The thing is, it added $4 per cable for shipping. $14 in cables, $15 in shipping. At BestByte, not only were the cables cheaper, but the they didn't gouge me on shipping! I ordered 4 cables, a window kit, and 20 feet of sleeving. That's 25 units. At NewEgg, it would have been insanely expensive. If you order 2 of something, shipping doubles. So 20 units of something = $80.

I'll post pics of my case wiring in like a month or so, after I actually buy it. Damn PCIe motherboards, BE AVAILABLE!

you are defeating the noise dampening function of the case..

harder to hide wires in that one, can't use the back of m/b tray. doesn't matter if no window

I was planning on modding in a longhorn shaped window ... and creating a removable right panel to aid in wire routing. As is, I need to make minor interior mods to help route cables. Also, I will be painting the entire interioir assembly.

I may end up adding a removable cover to the side - with a rubber seal and thumbscrews, so I can drill holes in the case, route the wire on the exterior of the case, and cover it back up! Ghetto I know, but no one will see =)
