Everytime i access tracks from a cd which is on networked computer i get a message that format is not supported and cannot listen to the music until i physically move the CD to the computer i am sitting on.
How can i solve this problem?
CD is on a computer that is running windows 98
i want to listen to it on a computer which has windows XP or vice versa. I am able to share other files.

If you are trying to listen to a audio CD via the network, then no, it will not work. This is why you get the format is not supported error message.

Even if you enable DAE for Audio CDs you still will not be able to listen to them over a network. Audio CDs are a very different format from Data CDs. File sharing only supports actual files, not audio CD tracks.

You have to burn on CD or save the music on the hard drive in computer's music format.

You can play over the LAN, MP3 files MIDI or WAV, any kind that can be stored on a Hard Drive.

You can burn it onto CD but it has to be the kind of format that can be stored on a Hard Drive.

When i copy the tracks into my harddrive from the shared CD drive on my other computer i still can't listen to it. why ? at this point i am not accessing the CD drive of the shared computer and the file is physically on my harddrive. do i need a special software like media player to copy the files in correct format?

What is DAE?

Thanks JackMDS. I guess we were writing at the same time that's why i couldnot read your post and posed the question that you seem to have answered already. I have learned a great deal from the links you have provided. Thanks once again.

Kinda off subject but it's freakin great to share a teachers floppy drive when you are all on the same windows 98 network. He had one of the loudest floppy drives I've ever heard and it would drive him crazy. Poor old guy never figured it out.
